# Sainz: Williams Needs “Ideology Change” to be Competitive in F1 2026

Carlos sainz believes Williams needs a important shift in its approach to become a consistent contender in Formula 1 when the new regulations arrive in 2026. The Spaniard, who will join the team in 2025, emphasized the need for a basic change in philosophy to unlock the team’s potential.## Assessing Williams’ Current situation

Williams has struggled in recent years, consistently finding itself towards the back of the grid. While the team has shown flashes of potential, particularly with Alexander Albon’s strong performances, a lack of consistent development and a clear strategic direction have hampered its progress.

Sainz recognizes this and believes a deeper overhaul is necessary than simply adding resources. “They need a philosophy change,” he stated. “It’s not just about throwing money at it, or getting people. It’s about changing the way they approach things, the way they develop the car, the way they think about racing.”

He continued, “They need to really define a clear path forward and stick to it. That’s what I see as the biggest challenge for Williams.”

## The 2026 Regulations: A Clean Slate?

The introduction of new power unit regulations in 2026 presents a unique chance for teams to reset and perhaps close the gap to the frontrunners. However, Sainz cautions that simply having a new engine won’t automatically solve Williams’ problems.

“The 2026 regs are a big opportunity for everyone, but it’s also a big risk,” he explained. “If you don’t get it right, you can easily fall even further behind. Williams needs to use this opportunity to build a solid foundation for the future.”

He believes a successful transition will require a holistic approach, encompassing all aspects of the team’s operations. “It’s about aerodynamics, engine integration, strategy, pit stops – everything needs to be top-notch. And that requires a clear vision and a lot of hard work.”

## Sainz’s Role in the Transformation

Sainz’s arrival at Williams is seen as a pivotal moment for the team. The experienced driver, currently with Ferrari, brings a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record of success. He’s eager to play a key role in shaping the team’s future.

“I’m joining Williams because I beleive in thier potential,” Sainz said. “I want to be part of a project that can challenge the established order. I’m ready to put in the work and help the team achieve its goals.”

He understands the challenges ahead but remains optimistic.”It won’t be easy, but I’m confident that with the right approach,Williams can become a competitive force in Formula 1 once again.”
