F1 26-Race Calendar: Vowles Proposes Change
James Vowles Suggests Two-Day Race Weekends to Allow for More Races
Williams team principal james Vowles believes Formula 1 could accommodate more races per season if the race weekends were shortened to two days – Saturday and Sunday - instead of the current three.
Vowles stated he doesn’t believe the current number of races is too many, but feels 24 rounds is the maximum to avoid over-burdening fans who dedicate a notable portion of their year to watching F1.
However, he argues that removing Friday practice sessions would free up a day, making an increase in the total number of races feasible. He expressed this opinion during an appearance on the Business of Sport podcast.
Vowles believes this change is his personal opinion, but feels it would allow for more races without negatively impacting fan engagement.
