Young female drivers striving to break into Formula 1 report facing a lack of respect from their male counterparts. At a recent More Than Equal training camp in Lincolnshire, england, several drivers shared their experiences.

Ivonn, 14,⁤ in a Ginetta G40 car
The More Than Equal‍ program hopes to find the first female F1 champion.

Ivonn, a⁤ 14-year-old racer from Austria who has been competing since age 6, stated, “If you can’t handle a ⁣girl being in front of you, this isn’t the sport ⁣for you.”

Tom Stanton, ⁣head of more Than Equal, said the program is searching the globe for talented female drivers. The fully funded advancement program, founded by former F1 star David Coulthard, aims to address the challenges ⁢women face in the sport.

No woman has scored points in the F1 World Championship since 1975. More Than equal seeks⁤ to change that.

Ivonn said her⁣ father encouraged her racing career. “It’s a difficult industry ⁤as frequently enough boys don’t respect you and you have to earn their ⁢respect,” she said. Her advice to aspiring female racers: ⁤”Just do it…if boys give you a hard time, just give them a harder time next time.”

Emma Parker, Skye's mum
Emma Parker, Skye’s mum, explained most of her ⁤daughter’s school friends ⁣play netball, hockey and tennis.

Skye, another young driver, aspires to become the first female F1 champion. Her mother, ⁤Emma, said the family fully supports her ambition. skye believes that some male drivers retaliate when outraced by a female competitor. “Boys will still put her in⁢ the barrier rather than finishing behind her,” Emma Parker said.

Katrina, 15, from Hong Kong,⁤ races in ‍the Ginetta Junior series and is⁢ a former Asian⁣ karting champion. She recounted instances of being targeted by other drivers.”I remember there was a time when two or three‍ drivers ganged up on me just to purposely push me off,” Katrina said, adding that she learned to stand⁢ her ground.

Katrina, ⁣15, from Hong Kong
The 5-speed sequential gearbox on the car Katrina races allows for speedy and precise gear changes, essential for competitive racing.

Stanton ⁣believes funding challenges and being outnumbered by male drivers have hindered women’s⁢ progress in F1.”Our program is unapologetically‍ female focused…we have to do things differently,” he said. “There’s no reason why we wouldn’t have future champions here ⁣today.”
