SUZUKA, Japan (April 5, 2025) — Ollie Bearman delivered a stellar performance in his Suzuka debut at the Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix, securing tenth place in qualifying behind the wheel of the VF-25.This result marks Haas’ first Q3 appearance of the season and bearman’s personal best in a Saturday qualifying session.
Esteban Ocon, however, faced challenges, being eliminated in Q1 with an 18th-place finish. Ocon continues to search for optimal comfort with the American team’s single-seater.
Both drivers aim to finish in the top ten during the race, building upon their performance from Shanghai ten days prior.
Bearman’s Viewpoint
Bearman acknowledged a minor error on his final lap. “On the last lap I made a small mistake and I lost a few tenths, perhaps we coudl aspire to something more, but the level was very high,” he said. He added, “Entering in Q2 has already been surprising, but being able to get to the bottom is fantastic.I don’t know what to expect for the race from the weather point of view, but it will certainly be exciting. The track is extraordinary and the public is equally.”
Ocon’s Difficulties
Ocon described his Saturday as complex, citing issues with the car’s responsiveness. “We have tried many solutions on both cars,but in my case something has not worked,” Ocon stated.”The competitiveness is not the one we expected, but I am happy for Ollie. Now we will analyze the data and we will make ourselves ready, also as the weather could mix the cards.”
Team Principal’s Assessment
Ayao komatsu, Team Principal, expressed moderate satisfaction, highlighting the team’s progress. “The initial goal was to get out of Q1 with both cars, so having a machine in Q3 is a great result,” Komatsu said. “From free practice we made steps in the management of soft tires, but we were not yet at the ideal level. For this reason, Ollie’s performance in Q2 was exceptional. In Q3 it was not perfect, but we were not perfect, That, with a clean lap, there was also the margin for something more.”
