Remember those mockumentary-style interview segments in the original reveal trailer for Fable? well, those will actually be in the game, adn thay’re inspired by an unexpected source: The Office.
Fable is a distinctly British video game series, and one in which humor has always been able to flourish. Both dry and absurdist British humor were central to Lionhead’s original trilogy, and it’s great to see that ideology being continued in Playground Games’ 2026 reboot, which we recently got an extended look at during the Xbox Developer Direct of January 2026.
In a conversation with Xbox Wire, Playground founder and managing director Ralph Fulton cited a handful of classic British sitcoms from the 21st century as reference points for Fable’s tone. “We were inspired by the incredibly rich variety of British comedies that have come out over the last 20 years, like Peep Show, The IT Crowd, and so many others,” Fulton revealed.”we started with The Office, which again started as something very British, but also really, really works internationally.”
