Facebook Algorithm Reels Update: Newer, More Relevant Content
Facebook Updates Reels Algorithm for Enhanced Finding and Creator Support
Facebook announced on October 8, 2025, that it is updating its Reels algorithm to deliver more personalized content to users and provide increased visibility for creators. The changes aim to make recommendations “smarter” while also offering users greater control over the content they see.
Personalized Recommendations and “Friend Bubbles”
The updated algorithm will learn user interests more quickly, resulting in more relevant Reels suggestions. A key feature is the introduction of Instagram-like “friend bubbles,” which prioritize Reels and posts that a user’s friends have engaged with. This aims to surface content from trusted sources within a user’s network.
Furthermore, Facebook is integrating AI-powered suggestions on some Reels, helping users discover similar content and explore new interests. Users will also have more explicit tools to indicate they are “not interested” in a particular Reel, refining future recommendations.
Longer Reels and Daily Content Prioritization
Analysis of current Reels performance reveals a trend towards longer-form content. Facebook reports that Reels exceeding one minute in length account for a quarter of all Reels created by creators with over 10,000 followers and generate over 50% of total watch time on the platform.
The algorithm is also prioritizing recent content, now surfacing 50% more Reels published on the same day. This shift is expected to significantly impact creators and their content strategies, encouraging more frequent posting.
Implications for Creators
These changes suggest that creators should consider producing longer-form Reels to maximize engagement and visibility. The increased emphasis on daily content also highlights the importance of consistent posting schedules. Artists and marketing teams are likely to analyze these algorithmic shifts to optimize their content strategies and reach a wider audience.
