Faculty of Islamic Sciences in Sarajevo Honored with Prestigious ‘Hasan-ef. Škapur’ Award
Mevlud Celebration in Tešanj: Honoring the Birth of Muhammad
The Ferhad-beg mosque in Tešanj recently hosted the traditional mevlud of the Majlis of the Islamic Community of Tešanj and the central event of the Mufti of Zenica, marking the 12th of Rebiul-Evvel, the date of birth of Muhammad, peace be upon him.
This year’s recognition and award was presented by the Fund “Hasan-os. Škapur” for a contribution to the development of Islamic sciences to the Faculty of Islamic Sciences in Sarajevo. Dr. Zuhdija Hasanović accepted the award on behalf of the faculty.
Following the mevlud recitation by the imams of Tešanj, the chief imam of the Mejlis Tešanj Fuad-ef Omerbašić addressed the congregation, highlighting the values and significance of mevlud. He also explained the decision of the commission for the selection of award winners and recognition.
“The Faculty of Islamic Sciences at the University of Sarajevo is the heir of the earliest Islamic educational institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, established during the Ottoman rule, as well as Islamic educational institutions of higher education established during the Austro-Hungarian Empire,” said Omerbašić. “With the confirmation of the national identity of Bosnian Muslims during the sixties and seventies of the 20th century, a space was opened for freer action, so on September 29, 1977, the Faculty of Islamic Theology was established, whose first graduates bring a new quality to the experience of Islam in Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond. Today, the Faculty of Islamic Sciences in Sarajevo is the most prestigious institution of higher Islamic education in Europe.”
Professor Hasanović thanked the organizers for the award and recognition on behalf of the Faculty, Dean Hasani, teachers, students, and alumni.
