Fairbanks Man Charged After Threatening Labor Union Hall Attack

A 66-year-old Fairbanks man is in custody following a SWAT standoff at his residence after authorities received reports that he had made terroristic threats involving a plot to attack a labor union hall.

Donald McTaggart was arrested by Alaska State Troopers and is currently being held at the Fairbanks Correctional Center. He has been charged with two counts of second-degree terroristic threatening.

SWAT Response and Standoff

The incident began when Alaska State Troopers attempted to contact McTaggart at his home regarding the reported threats. Upon the arrival of officers, McTaggart entered his residence and barricaded himself inside.

In response to the barricade situation, authorities obtained both a search warrant and an arrest warrant. The Northern SWAT team was then activated to manage the scene and secure the surrender of the suspect.

Following a short standoff, McTaggart exited the home and surrendered to the troopers without incident. No injuries were reported during the encounter.

Seizure of Firearms and Ammunition

After McTaggart was taken into custody, Alaska State Troopers executed the search warrant on the property. During the search, law enforcement discovered and seized a significant cache of weapons and supplies.

Troopers reported the seizure of more than 40 firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition from the residence.
