Championship Dreams and Connecticut’s Legacy
Fairfield National will now compete in the U.S.championship game on Saturday, with their opponent yet to be resolute. The team is aiming to bring home a title for connecticut, a state with a proud history in the Little League World Series. The last connecticut team to win the championship was Trumbull in 1989,marking the fourth time a team from the state has claimed the coveted title.
Prior to Trumbull’s 1989 victory,Stamford Little League won in 1951,followed by Norwalk National Little League in 1952,and Windsor Locks Little League in 1965. These past successes serve as inspiration for the current Fairfield National team.
Learning from Adversity
Despite their current success, Fairfield National experienced a setback earlier in the season, suffering a loss to a team from New York. However, team president Diego Dalan believes this experience proved valuable. “I wouldn’t say a wake-up call, but it was a reality check,” Dalan explained. “it was like, ‘OK, hey, we are vulnerable. Let’s dig deeper here and show everybody what we’re made of.'” This adversity appears to have strengthened the team’s resolve.
Community Support Fuels the run
The team’s journey has captured the hearts of the Fairfield community.Dozens of supporters gathered at Elicit Brewing in Fairfield on Wednesday to cheer on the team during a watch party, demonstrating the widespread enthusiasm for their success. The outpouring of support highlights the strong bond between the team and its hometown.
Parents expressed immense pride in the players, regardless of the championship outcome. Lisa Mastronardi, a parent of a Fairfield National 9U player, shared, ”They are winners. We are so proud of how far they have already come. Those boys are coming home winners no matter what happens.” Jimmy Hasiotis, father of a Fairfield American player, echoed this sentiment, stating, “When push comes to shove. I’ll take our boys over anyone in the country.”
