Singapore’s Prime minister Lawrence Wong has voiced concerns that Israel’s restrictions on humanitarian aid to Gaza may constitute a breach of international law. Wong made the remarks during a joint press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron, highlighting the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
According to Associate Professor Faishal,Wong stated plainly that Israel’s actions have “gone too far,” particularly regarding restrictions on delivering humanitarian supplies. The Singapore government believes these actions likely violate international humanitarian law.
The prime minister’s statement follows increasing international scrutiny of Israel’s response to the Hamas attack on Oct. 7,2023. Wong emphasized that the response has resulted in a “terrible humanitarian disaster.”
“(Mr Wong) said plainly that Israel has gone too far in its actions… In particular, the restrictions it has imposed on the delivery of humanitarian supplies to Gaza are wholly unacceptable.
