Faith Under Siege: New Doc Released, Exposing Severe Persecution of Evangelical Christians by Russia
Documentary Exposes Religious Persecution of Christians in Ukraine War
A new documentary, “A Faith Under Siege,” is bringing attention to the increasing religious persecution of evangelical Christians in Ukraine, a crisis largely unnoticed in the West. The film, now available via the CBN News Channel, follows pastors and missionaries offering aid and hope on the front lines.
The documentary highlights the devastating impact of the Russian war on Ukrainian Christians who refuse to submit to Moscow’s authority. It shares firsthand accounts of believers who have been captured, tortured, or forced to flee due to their faith.
Colby Barrett, executive producer, said the goal was to cut through propaganda and reveal the truth by speaking directly with those who have suffered for their faith under Russian occupation. He noted the courage of those who remained in war-torn areas to minister and provide aid, and how Russian forces view these evangelicals as a threat.
Former Green Beret Christian Hickey, who moved to Ukraine in 2022 as a missionary, told of distributing thousands of audio Bibles to Ukrainian soldiers and civilians. “Its one of the best ways to get Scripture into their hands,” Hickey said, adding, “We know from experience that God’s word never returns void.”
Barrett said the film is not intended to generate profit but to mobilize American Christians to host screenings and show support for their brothers and sisters in Ukraine. The film recently gained exposure at the Museum of the bible.
Barrett said, “We pray for the Christians that are caught in this conflict, that they’re able to serve as a model for our faith… as well as just an end to this war, a just end to this war.”
What’s next
Producers hope the documentary will raise awareness and inspire action among Christians worldwide, urging them to pray for and support those facing religious persecution in Ukraine.
