Thousands of Lithuanian Electricity Customers Face Estimated bills
More than 23,000 customers of ESO, Lithuania’s electricity distributor, haven’t submitted meter readings and now face estimated bills, the company confirmed this week. While most Lithuanians have smart meters, a critically important number still use older devices requiring manual readings.
ESO sent reminders to 29,000 customers before the holidays last year, urging them to submit their data. Over 6,000 responded, but roughly 23,000 still haven’t reported their usage, according to ESO spokesperson Rasa Juodkienė.
ESO follows a tiered reminder system. Customers who haven’t submitted readings after nine months receive an initial notice. A second reminder follows two months later, and a final notice is sent when readings are 12 months overdue. After that, a contractor will visit the property to estimate usage.
Customers can submit readings through ESO’s website or mobile app.
