Atlanta Falcons right tackle Kaleb McGary is retiring at age 31. The announcement was made on April 8, 2026, by his agent, Collin Roberts, via social media.
McGary’s retirement follows a period of significant injury. He missed the entire 2025 season after suffering a knee injury, described as a lower left leg injury, on the final day of training camp.
Over the course of six seasons in Atlanta, McGary started 92 games. He had been slotted to cover the blind side for left-handed quarterback Michael Penix Jr. During the 2025 season and was expected to maintain that role in 2026 for both Penix Jr. And fellow left-handed quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
Organizational Reaction
Matt Ryan, the Falcons president of football, issued a statement regarding McGary’s departure. Ryan played with McGary from 2019 to 2021.
I truly enjoyed my time playing alongside Kaleb. He was an outstanding teammate and had a tremendous career as a Falcon. We are grateful for the impact he made on this organization, and we wish him nothing but the best in retirement.

Roster Adjustment
The Falcons moved to replace McGary on April 8, 2026, by agreeing to a one-year contract with right tackle Jawaan Taylor.
According to agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey, the contract for Taylor has a base value of $5 million. The agreement also includes $1 million in incentives.
The transition occurs as the team continues operations under head coach Kevin Stefanski.
