Syundei, the creator of the manga series Go for It, Nakamura!! (also known as Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!!), has deleted her X account following a period of intense online harassment and death threats.

The backlash against the mangaka intensified after the anime adaptation of the series premiered on Crunchyroll on April 1, 2026.

Controversy Over Teacher-Student Dynamics

The criticism directed at Syundei centered on a specific subplot involving two characters: a teacher named Otogiri and a student named Hirose.

Some viewers interpreted the scenes between these two characters as inappropriate, leading to a wave of backlash from overseas and Western fans.

According to reports, this criticism persisted despite prior clarifications from the creator. Syundei had previously stated that the relationship between Otogiri and Hirose was not intended to be romantic or sexual in nature.

Escalation of Harassment

What began as criticism over the content of the Boys’ Love (BL) anime adaptation escalated into severe harassment. The creator was targeted with a wave of intense online attacks that eventually included death threats.

The severity of the harassment led Syundei to delete her X account, which had been active for 10 years.

The incident highlights a recurring tension between Japanese creators and international audiences regarding the interpretation of character dynamics and thematic boundaries in manga and anime.

The deletion of the account follows a pattern of creators removing their social media presence after facing similar waves of intense international scrutiny.
