FAMU SJGC Welcomes Emmy Winner Jacque Reid as Visiting Lecturer

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida A&M University (FAMU) School of Journalism & Graphic Communication (SJGC) has announced that Emmy Award-winning journalist Jacque Reid will serve as the Hearst Visiting Guest Lecturer for the spring 2026 semester. Reid’s appointment underscores the university’s commitment to providing students with practical, real-world experience in a rapidly evolving media landscape.

Reid will lead a four-part masterclass series titled “How to Be an Independent Journalist,” designed to mentor and prepare junior and senior students for careers in the field. The program aims to equip students with the tools and knowledge necessary to navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by the changing dynamics of news and information dissemination.

Reid brings decades of experience as a nationally recognized media personality, executive, and content creator. Her career spans a diverse range of platforms, including NBC, CNN, ABC, BET, and “The Tom Joyner Morning Show.” She is currently the creator and host of “The Jacque Reid Experience” podcast and co-hosts “Reid This Reid That” with journalist Joy-Ann Reid. Beyond her work in traditional and digital media, Reid is also the founder and CEO of Vegan Sexy Cool, a brand focused on vegan lifestyle content.

The masterclass series will delve behind the scenes of independent journalism, offering students insights into the practicalities of the profession and featuring conversations with prominent figures in the news and media industries. The curriculum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the skills required to succeed as an independent journalist in today’s competitive environment.

Upon completion of the series, students will receive a certificate of completion and become eligible for a summer internship, providing a valuable opportunity to apply their newly acquired knowledge in a professional setting.
