Fanny Mendelssohn International festival Returns to Pisa
PISA, Italy – The Fanny Mendelssohn International Festival is set to commence its twelfth edition on Friday, May 9, at the Graphics Museum in Palazzo Lanfranchi, Pisa. The University Museum System of the University of Pisa is hosting the event.
The festival, known for its consistently sold-out concerts, is supported by the Tuscany Region, the Province of Pisa, and the Municipalities of Pisa, San Giuliano Terme, and Cascina. Collaborations include Adsi – Association of Italian Historical Houses,Tuscany Section. Funding is provided by the Pisa Foundation and Unicoop Firenze - Valdisechio Versilia shareholders section.

This year’s concert will showcase flutist Tommaso Benciolini and guitarist Lorenzo Bernardi.
Tommaso Benciolini: International Acclaim
Benciolini, an international concert artist, has performed in prestigious venues worldwide, including Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, the Philharmonie in Berlin, and Carnegie Hall in New York. He has collaborated with orchestras such as the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berliner Symphoniker.
In 2021, Sony Classical released Benciolini’s album dedicated to Antonio Vivaldi, featuring the Chamber Orchestra The Enthusiast. The album received positive reviews and airplay on Rai, Swiss National Radio, NHK, and classical Radio.
Lorenzo Bernardi: A Versatile Guitarist
Bernardi graduated from the FA Bonporti Conservatory in Trento and continued his studies with Emanuele Buono at the Luigi Canepa Conservatory of Sassari. He also studied at the Manuel Castillo Conservatory of Seville through a European Union scholarship.
Bernardi performs as a soloist and in chamber ensembles across Europe, South america, America, asia, and Australia. He has collaborated with artists such as guitarist Thu Le and mandolinist Carlo Aonzo.
In 2019, Bernardi released the album “Agustín Barrios Mangoré – at the Estilo Antiguo” for the Davinci label. He also recorded “Two Italians in Vienna” with violinist saverio Gabrielli,featuring music by Mauro Giuliani,Niccolò Paganini,and a world premiere recording of Louis Spohr’s grand duo.

The evening’s program will feature works by Rossini, Castelnuovo-Tedesco, and Piazzolla, creating a dialog between flute and guitar.
Additional Activities
Starting at 8 p.m., attendees can participate in a guided tour of the exhibition “Pass the Giro. Images and stories of bicycles,” which explores the history of bicycles through prints, drawings, photographs, and historical posters.
Following the concert, attendees are invited to a reception with refreshments provided by the Zanobini pastry shop.
