Fantasy Football Week 3: Injury-Driven Opportunities and Start/Sit Advice
Fantasy football managers facing the early weeks of the season must weigh mounting injuries and shifting roles carefully, according to recent analysis from FantasyPros and Pro Football Network. While analysts caution against panicking after the first two weeks of action, a wave of roster disruptions across the league has created immediate start-and-sit dilemmas for Week 3.
Jonathan Taylor and the Colts Face a Tough Test Against Houston
According to FantasyPros, Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor enters a difficult matchup against the Houston Texans. The Texans rank as the second-best team in Expected Points Added allowed to the run and have surrendered just 85 rushing yards per game. Taylor has averaged 5.38 yards per carry on man and gap scheme runs, but Houston’s defense allows the fourth-lowest success rate against those specific formations.
Additionally, the Colts are missing wide receiver Alec Pierce for a sustained period due to injury. FantasyPros notes that Taylor has seen increased involvement in the passing game with four targets in each of his first two games, putting him on pace to surpass his 55 targets from the previous season. Even so, the upcoming contest projects as a low-scoring, slow-paced affair, raising the risk for fantasy managers counting on elite production.
Chuba Hubbard Maintains a Steady Role in Carolina’s Backfield

Pro Football Network ranks Carolina Panthers running back Chuba Hubbard at No. 19 heading into Week 3 against the Cleveland Browns. Hubbard enters the contest with a favorable setup against a defense that has struggled against runners after contact. According to Pro Football Network, Hubbard has exceeded expectations on a per-touch basis by more than 16 percent in each of the first two weeks.
While none of Hubbard’s 22 carries through two games have gained more than 12 yards, he has twice as many runs of 10-plus yards as he has stuffed attempts. He has also scored a touchdown in each game after totaling only five receiving scores over his first five seasons. Teammate Jonathon Brooks remains part of the long-term picture in Carolina, but Brooks managed only 16 yards on five carries last week, leaving Hubbard with the more dependable workload.
De’Von Achane and Omarion Hampton Face Early-Season Hurdles

Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane has fallen short of high expectations after being drafted as a premium option. Pro Football Network reports that Achane has yet to produce a gain of 20-plus yards, and Miami’s offense has scored only 26 points across eight quarters against San Francisco and Las Vegas. Achane also has seven red-zone touches without much production to show for them, and he now faces a difficult matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Meanwhile, fantasy managers who drafted Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton near the end of the first round or top of the second round are experiencing similar anxiety. According to FantasyPros, Hampton’s snap share sits near the 60 percent mark, trailing other rookie-class talents like Kenneth Walker III and Chase Brown. The Chargers offense currently ranks 28th in Rushing Offense EPA, complicating Hampton’s path to consistent weekly numbers as the team prepares to face the Buffalo Bills.
