North Dakota Representative Liz Conmy was among two people killed in a plane crash near Minneapolis on Saturday, April 25, 2026.
The crash occurred shortly after takeoff from Crystal Airport in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, according to authorities. Brooklyn Park Police responded to a report of a small airplane crash at 11:51 a.m. And located an aircraft that had crashed and caught fire in Southbrook Park, near 62nd Avenue North and Florida Avenue North.
The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that two people were aboard the Beech F33A aircraft involved in the crash. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident and has stated that investigators will arrive at the scene soon.
North Dakota state Senator Tim Mathern, Conmy’s colleague in the 11th District and a fellow Democrat, confirmed her death to The Forum. Mathern said Conmy would be remembered for her “zest for life” and her understanding of both rural and urban concerns to North Dakota voters.
He praised her ability to work with legislators across party lines and noted that despite living in Fargo, Conmy also spent time working her farm in Langdon, North Dakota, giving her a unique perspective on issues affecting farmers.
The North Dakota Democratic–Nonpartisan League Party confirmed Conmy’s death in a social media post, calling her a champion for public education, the environment, and transparency. The party stated, “We are completely heartbroken and gutted by the loss of Representative Liz Conmy. Her death is a profound loss for our state.”
House Minority Leader Zac Ista released a statement following her death, saying, “I am completely devastated at the loss of our friend Liz. She lived life to its fullest, never shying from adventure or speaking her mind—often in refreshingly direct terms.” Ista added that Conmy made genuine friendships across the political spectrum and had a “wicked sense of humor.”
Governor Kelly Armstrong issued a statement on Saturday, saying, “Liz served her state and community with care and compassion, from her service in the Legislature and on the state’s Human Trafficking Commission to her work on education, habitat and immigration.” Armstrong added that he and First Lady Kjersti Armstrong were saddened by the tragic loss and offered their deepest condolences to her family, friends, and fellow legislators.
Conmy, a Democrat from Fargo, was first elected to the North Dakota House in 2023 and was seeking her second term. She represented North Dakota’s 11th District, located in central Fargo.
Authorities have not released further details about the cause of the crash, and the investigation remains ongoing.
