ASSEN, N.Y. – A terrifying blaze ripped through a farmhouse on Witterhaar Road late Tuesday night, sending flames shooting high into the sky adn drawing firefighters from across the region. The inferno, which erupted shortly before midnight, quickly engulfed the structure, prompting a massive response from fire departments in Assen, Smilde, Beilen, and Vries.

“The residents where home when the fire started,” said Incident Commander Ido Rittersma. “Thankfully, they were able to evacuate safely, but one person sustained injuries and was treated by paramedics at the scene.”

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
