ND3: The Olympic Museum’s first-ever fashion show, “Fashion and Sport, from One Podium to another,” has sparked a lot of interest. What inspired this unique exhibition?
Angelita Teo: At the Olympic Museum, we strive to showcase the multifaceted nature of sport. This exhibition stems from the understanding that sport and fashion are deeply intertwined. Both spheres celebrate human achievement, creativity, and the pursuit of excellence. This partnership with the museum of decorative Arts in Paris allows us to explore this interesting intersection in a truly engaging way.
ND3: The exhibition features a diverse range of designers. What common thread connects their work in the context of this theme?
Teo: Each designer, from established names like Lacoste to emerging talents like ADAPT and Rafael Kouto, interprets the relationship between fashion and sport in their own unique way. Though, they all share a common thread: highlighting the synergy between athleticism and style. We see this expressed through innovative materials, functional designs, and a party of the human body in motion.
ND3: How do you envision this exhibition impacting visitors’ understanding of both sport and fashion?
Teo: We hope visitors leave with a newfound appreciation for the dynamic interplay between these two seemingly disparate worlds. By showcasing the evolution of sportswear and the influence of sport on fashion trends, we aim to inspire reflection on the cultural meaning of both. Ultimately, we want to demonstrate that sport and fashion are not just about aesthetics, but also about pushing boundaries, expressing individuality, and celebrating the human spirit.
