Fatal Brawl Case Takes Shocking Turn: Last Suspect Walks Free, Court Panel Adjourns in Chaos
Turkey’s Judges and Prosecutors Council Suspends Officers Over Fatal Brawl Case
Turkey’s Judges and Prosecutors Council (HSK) has taken swift action against four judicial officers in connection with a high-profile fatal brawl case. The decision comes after the court panel released the last suspect in the case, sparking widespread controversy.
The case in question involves the fatal stabbing of Semih Kenan Köse in a market in the Altıntaş neighborhood of İzmir in October 2023. Three suspected brothers, Serkan B., Taylan B., and Sercan B., were initially arrested and charged with “intentional murder in compliance,” which carries a life imprisonment sentence.
However, in a surprising turn of events, the court panel released two of the suspects, Serkan B. and Taylan B., in the first hearing. The latest hearing, held on September 17 at the 3rd High Criminal Court of İzmir, saw the release of the last suspect, Sercan B.
The HSK swiftly responded to the decision, suspending the presiding judge, two member judges, and the trial prosecutor on September 18. The move is seen as a significant step towards ensuring accountability within the judiciary.
In a related development, the 3rd High Criminal Court of İzmir issued an arrest warrant for Sercan B. following an objection from the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office. The warrant is a clear indication that the case is far from over, and the suspects may still face justice.
