A man has died following a fall at the Oasis reunion concert at Wembley stadium on Saturday, sparking an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. The victim has been named as Lee Claydon, a 75-year-old father of one from Bournemouth.
Details of the Incident and Victim
Lee Claydon was attending the concert with his brother and family when the tragedy occurred during the band’s sold-out Live ’25 reunion tour - their first performance since disbanding in 2009. According to his father, Clive Claydon, Lee may have consumed a couple of beers but had not taken any drugs.
“He was a lovely bloke, loved to be with his family – a hard-working family man, he loved his kid, looked after them really well,” said Mr. Claydon, speaking to PA News agency. He described his son as having “everything going for him” and expressed profound devastation. “I am so devastated, I have been to the doctor for tablets and everything to get over it.”
Mr. Claydon believes his son slipped on a wet floor, potentially caused by spilled beer.he raised concerns about safety measures at the stadium, noting that his son’s brother and family did not witness the fall. “It must have been horrific,” he stated. “All I know is there was beer everywhere,it’s slippery,he slipped apparently,we do not know the rest of it,there’s questions about the barriers.”
Lee Claydon was looking forward to a family holiday to Turkey and was described by his family as a loving father and role model.
investigation and Statements
the Metropolitan Police are appealing for witnesses and mobile phone footage related to the incident. The UK health and Safety Executive has also been informed.
Wembley Stadium released a statement asserting its commitment to high health and safety standards. “Wembley Stadium operates to a very high health and safety standard, fully meeting legal requirements for the safety of spectators and staff, and is certified to and compliant with the ISO 45001 standard,” a spokesperson said. “We work very closely and collaboratively with all relevant event delivery stakeholders… to deliver events to high standards of safety, security and service.”
Oasis also issued a statement expressing their shock and sadness. “Oasis would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.”
Fundraising Efforts and Family Tribute
A fundraising page has been established to support Lee Claydon’s partner and son, quickly surpassing £2,000 in donations. Aaron Claydon, who created the page, described his uncle as a “loving family man who was a role model to his son.”
“Lee would have done anything for any of us and he was taken from us far too soon, and we will miss him so very much,” the fundraising page reads. It also highlights Lee’s passions, including fishing, music (playing the guitar), and supporting his son and nephew at their football games.
The incident has prompted questions about safety protocols at large-scale events and the potential hazards posed by slippery surfaces within crowded venues. Authorities are expected to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding Lee Claydon’s death to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
