Fatima Kline: “I’m Going To Run Through The Division
Kline Eyes Top 15 Ranking with Dominant Performance at UFC 318
New York’s “The Archangel” Aims to Make a Statement Against Evenly Matched Opponent
As the Ultimate Fighting Championship gears up for UFC 318, all eyes are on rising strawweight contender, Montana “The Archangel” Kline. This weekend marks Kline’s third foray into the Octagon, and while she hasn’t yet cracked the coveted top 15 rankings at 115 pounds, a decisive victory could propel her firmly into contention. Many in the MMA community already consider a top 15 spot an inevitability for the New York native, but Kline remains focused on the task at hand, refusing to overlook her upcoming opponent.
“I really didn’t know who I was going to get, but honestly, I’m happy with it,” Kline shared. “We’re both 1-1 in the UFC, and I feel like we are pretty evenly matched. As far as records go,she’s eight and one,and I’m seven and one. I feel like this is a good fight for me to get my feet wet in the UFC again in front of another crowd to really show everything I’ve been working on and just really make another statement with a dominant win over Melissa. I feel like I really belong in the top 15. And so with all that in mind, yeah, I’d like to be in the top 15 by the end of this year.”
Kline’s journey to the top has been characterized by a quiet determination, a trait frequently enough associated with East Coast fighters, much like her fellow New Yorker, erin blanchfield. While she may not be one to boast, her actions inside the Octagon speak volumes. This resilience was particularly evident in her recent outing, where she accepted a short-notice fight in a higher weight class and at altitude against the formidable Canadian contender, Jasmine Jasudavicius. Though the result didn’t swing in her favor, Kline’s performance left an indelible mark, sending a clear message about her grit and potential.
“I do love taking these tough fights, and as much as I wish I would’ve won that, I took it and I feel like I toughed it out and I tried my best and did what I was able to do with the time that I had and the circumstances that were around me,” Kline reflected. “And that does give me so much confidence knowing that if I could do that and I could have a tough fight like that, and she’s now top five-ranked at ’25, where does that put me? Every fight’s different, but I feel like when you have those tough fights early in your career and just go through the mud a little bit, I feel like it is going to prepare me for the future. I feel like that fight, and even fights previous that were really tough for me, have been preparing me for each and every fight, especially now.”
Kline’s willingness to embrace challenges, even when the odds are stacked against her, underscores her commitment to growth and her belief in her own capabilities. This mindset, forged through adversity, is precisely what positions her as a fighter to watch as she continues her ascent in the competitive strawweight division. A dominant performance at UFC 318 would not only solidify her claim for a top 15 ranking but also serve as a powerful testament to her unwavering dedication and the bright future that lies ahead for “The Archangel.”
