FC Dallas Defeat Toronto FC 3-2 in Season Opener | Musa Scores Twice

FC Dallas Opens Season with Thrilling 3-2 Victory Over Toronto FC

FRISCO, Texas – FC Dallas began its 2026 Major League Soccer season with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Toronto FC on Saturday night at Toyota Stadium. Petar Musa led the charge for Dallas, scoring two goals, while Logan Farrington added a goal and an assist in a match that saw both teams trade blows throughout the evening.

The opening goal came in the ninth minute courtesy of Musa, putting Dallas ahead early. However, Toronto responded quickly, leveling the score in the 15th minute when Djordje Mihailovic found the back of the net with a well-placed shot following a through ball from Jonathan Osorio.

Dallas regained the lead before halftime, with Farrington scoring in the 38th minute. He skillfully evaded two defenders before slotting a shot past Toronto goalkeeper Luka Gavran, giving FC Dallas a 2-1 advantage at the break.

The second half saw continued action, with Toronto once again finding the equalizer. In the 67th minute, Derrick Etienne Jr. Capitalized on a rebound off a shot by Dániel Sallói, tying the game at 2-2.

The decisive goal came from Musa in the 79th minute. He headed home a cross from Farrington, securing the victory for FC Dallas and completing his brace. The goal capped off a strong performance for the Croatian international, who is coming off a prolific 2025 season where he scored 19 goals across all competitions.

Musa’s two-goal performance places him in exclusive company in FC Dallas history. He joins Jorge “Zarco” Rodriguez and Ariel Graziani as the only players to score a brace in a season opener. He also tied Blas Perez for the fourth most goals scored in a FC Dallas uniform with 36.

FC Dallas goalkeeper Michael Collodi was crucial in securing the win, making five saves throughout the match. Toronto’s Gavran did not record a save.

The match also marked the MLS debuts of Herman Johansson and Ran Binyamin for FC Dallas. Johansson started the game, while Binyamin came off the bench in the 92nd minute to help close out the victory. Defender Shaq Moore made his 100th MLS regular season appearance.

With the win, FC Dallas improves its season-opening record to 16-5-10, and 14-5-9 when opening the season at home. Toronto FC, meanwhile, begins its 20th MLS season with a narrow defeat.
