A pall has⁢ fallen over FC Porto following a concerning injury to central defender Nehuén Pérez during Saturday’s victory against Nacional. the Argentine ⁣international suffered what the club has described as a “suspicion of ⁢injury ‍to the Achilles tendon” in the ⁢60th minute of the match.

Pérez had ⁢only been on the pitch for five minutes, entering the game⁢ as ⁣a substitute in the 55th minute, before collapsing and requiring⁢ a stretcher ‍to⁢ leave the field. The incident promptly raised fears ‍of a serious ⁣injury, and those concerns appear to be well-founded.

FC Porto has confirmed that Pérez will undergo further medical examinations in the coming⁤ hours, with results expected to be released on ⁢Sunday. Sources close to the club suggest ⁤that surgery is a⁤ strong‍ possibility, which woudl regrettably rule the 28-year-old out for the remainder of the 2024-2025 season.⁤

Head coach Francesco Farioli alluded to the ⁣severity of⁣ the injury in post-match comments, though he did not provide specific⁢ details. An Achilles tendon injury, particularly one requiring surgical intervention, typically involves a lengthy rehabilitation period, often exceeding six months.

This injury represents a⁣ significant blow to FC Porto’s defensive line. Pérez has been a⁣ key ⁢figure in their back four, and his absence will undoubtedly be felt as they navigate a⁣ demanding schedule. Fans will be anxiously awaiting updates from the club on Sunday, hoping for ⁣a⁢ more definitive‍ diagnosis ⁤and a clearer understanding of the road ⁣to recovery for their defender.
