an assistant division chief at the Federal Communications Commission is in custody, facing multiple felony charges related to attempted abduction and sexual assault. Jeff Gary, 35, was arrested in connection with two incidents that occurred Friday night near Metro stations in Alexandria, Va.
Alexandria police reports indicate the first incident took place at the Potomac Yard Metro station.A woman and her young daughter were on the platform when Gary allegedly approached, restrained her, and began touching her inappropriately. The woman told police her daughter threw juice on Gary, and he only stopped when another adult approached.
About an hour later, a similar attack occurred near the Braddock Road Metro station. The victim reported that Gary restrained and assaulted her. She contacted police, who began investigating immediately.
Authorities traced a Metro card used by the suspect back to Gary, linking it to the FCC and his residence near the Huntington Metro station. Gary, a Georgetown University Law Center graduate, faces charges related to these incidents.
“That Metro system kinda curves around and continues to go,and I really beleive based off the facts and the information we have that he was targeting females while riding the Metro,” Alexandria Police Chief Tarrick McGuire said.
The FCC confirmed Gary’s employment and stated that termination proceedings have begun. He is being held without bond, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for July.
