Felipe Chávez Gains Momentum in Bundesliga Amid Career Move Speculation and Club Performance Updates

Bayern Munich midfielder Felipe Chávez is set to leave the club on loan to FC Köln for the remainder of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season, as confirmed by the German champions in early February 2026. The 18-year-old Peruvian international, who signed a long-term contract with Bayern last summer, will join Köln to gain regular first-team experience in Germany’s top flight.

Chávez, born in Aichach to a Peruvian-French father and a German mother, progressed through Bayern’s youth system after joining from Augsburg’s academy in 2019. He made his first appearance for Bayern’s reserve team in October 2024 and earned his first senior cap for Peru against Chile in October 2025. His performances in pre-season friendlies ahead of the 2025/26 campaign caught the eye of head coach Vincent Kompany, who included him in the squad for a trip to Heidenheim and later brought him on as a substitute in a Bundesliga match against FC Augsburg.

The loan move to Köln was announced by Bayern’s sporting director Christoph Freund, who stated: “Pippo is a young player who’s already being looked at by many top clubs and we at Bayern have a clear plan to develop him. He should now make regular appearances in the Bundesliga at Köln and take the next step. Felipe is a really good player with an excellent left foot and lots of potential for the future.” The agreement includes both a purchase option for Köln and a buyback clause for Bayern.

Since joining Köln, Chávez has struggled to secure regular playing time under head coach René Wagner. In a press conference ahead of a Bundesliga match against Bayer Leverkusen in late April 2026, Wagner addressed the midfielder’s limited involvement, saying: “Felipe gives it his all in every training session, he’s a young player and has high quality with the ball. All the guys who haven’t been in the starting lineup lately are throwing themselves into it. That’s why the decisions aren’t easy for the coaching team.” Chávez has made just 62 minutes of appearances across multiple matches without recording a start.

The move represents a key step in Chávez’s development as he seeks to establish himself at the highest level. Having already featured for Bayern’s first team and earned international recognition with Peru, the loan to Köln provides an opportunity to accumulate consistent minutes in a competitive Bundesliga environment. Both clubs retain future options regarding his transfer, with Köln holding an option to buy and Bayern maintaining a buyback clause.
