Fellesforbundet Confirms No Planned Talks Today in Hotel Strike as Over 3,000 Workers Walk Out

Fellesforbundet Confirms No Planned Talks Today in Hotel Strike as Over 3,000 Workers Walk Out - News Directory 3

Over 3,000 hospitality workers in Norway remain on strike as of April 24, 2026, with no negotiation meetings scheduled between the parties for the day, according to Fellesforbundet and Parat.

The strike, which began on Sunday, April 19, after mediation broke down between unions and the employers’ organisation NHO Reiseliv, has seen escalating participation. On April 23, more than 1,000 additional workers walked out, raising the national total to nearly 3,000 strikers across 79 businesses in cities including Tromsø, Trondheim, and Sandefjord.

In Tromsø alone, 234 employees have joined the industrial action. Union representatives say they are prepared for a prolonged dispute, citing a substantial strike fund and willingness to continue until employers return to negotiations.

“You can continue for as long as necessary. We have a substantial strike fund and are willing to remain on strike until the employers return to the negotiating table,” said Julie Wilhelmsen, head of Fellesforbundet in Nord-Hålogaland.

Workers are demanding higher wages to improve purchasing power and changes to sick pay arrangements, specifically the advance payment of sick pay beyond the initial 16-day period before state reimbursement. Employers, while expressing support for higher wages, argue that certain demands place an unfair burden on businesses.

As of April 24, Fellesforbundet and Parat confirm there are no planned meetings with NHO Reiseliv for the day, though they state they remain ready to negotiate should the employers’ organisation initiate contact.
