Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Vows to Fight Against Assassination Threats in the Philippines
Manila – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of the Philippines has stated that he will not take the threats against his life lightly, calling them “very unsettling.” He expressed his commitment to combat these threats.
His remarks came after Vice President Sara Duterte, daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, claimed she had told one of her bodyguards to kill Marcos Jr., his wife Liza Araneta, and Speaker of the House Martin Romualdez if she were to be killed herself.
Sara suggested that she is a target for a murder plot but did not provide further details about the threat.
In a video message, which did not mention Sara by name, Marcos Jr. emphasized that “criminal plans like that should not be ignored.” He asserted that such statements have no place in a democratic nation like the Philippines and affirmed he would not remain silent.
Marcos Jr. questioned how easy it would be to plan a murder of a president, asking, “What about ordinary citizens?” He stated that criminal attempts must be addressed and reaffirmed the importance of upholding the rule of law in a democratic country.
