The Ferencváros football team defeated the defending champion ETO FC 3-0 on Thursday in an OTP Bank Liga match from the third round that was rescheduled from August due to a friendly against Real Madrid. Played before 8,703 spectators in Győr, the fixture ended the host club’s unbeaten run in the top flight and lifted Ferencváros into third place in the standings. Head coach Balázs Borbély returned to the venue where he won a league title last season, leading his new club to a dominant victory despite a hostile reception from home supporters.

Hostile Atmosphere Greets Borbély in Győr

Borbély did not receive a warm welcome upon his return to Győr after leaving the club during the summer to take charge of Ferencváros. Home fans jeered and chanted insults at the manager during pre-match introductions and later unfurled banners criticizing his departure. Despite the intense atmosphere on the stands, the match began with cautious, patient possession as neither side took early risks.

Ferencváros Breaks Open Match After Slow Start

The visitors struck first when Arzani delivered a cross from the left flank, allowing Bagi to head home from close range for his first career top-flight goal. A VAR review at the 31st minute checked an incident involving Stefulj but confirmed no rule infraction occurred. While Győr attempted to respond through long-range efforts from Urblík and a free-kick safely gathered by goalkeeper Dibusz, the home side lacked creativity in the final third. Ferencváros repeatedly exploited the left wing through Arzani before halftime, though the scoreline remained 1-0 at the break.

Second-Half Surge Secures Three Points

Ferencváros controlled the tempo after the interval, starving Győr of possession and generating multiple scoring chances. Keita hit the crossbar in the 67th minute before the visitors added two quick goals to put the match out of reach. In the 70th minute, Gómez converted a header following a corner kick taken by Cadu. Two minutes later, Lisztes added a third by shifting past a defender before finishing cleanly, extending the lead to 3-0. In the final minutes, Dibusz preserved the clean sheet by saving a penalty kick taken by newly signed Bosnian international Kulenovic after Keita fouled Urblík in the 88th minute. Following the victory, Borbély highlighted the team’s effort in post-match comments. Rengeteg munkát tettünk bele, megérdemelt volt a győzelem — We put a tremendous amount of work into it, the victory was deserved — said Borbély. The result leaves ETO FC searching for answers after losing their undefeated status, while Ferencváros climbs the OTP Bank Liga table ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
