Ferrari is charting a course toward electrification, and the details emerging about its first fully electric vehicle, currently dubbed “Elettrica,” signal a significant departure from the Italian marque’s traditional offerings. While the company has been deliberately measured in its rollout of information, recent disclosures reveal a vehicle focused on performance, advanced technology, and a surprising degree of practicality.

The Elettrica, slated for a full reveal later in 2026, will feature a four-door design with a wheelbase of 116.5 inches and a weight of just under 5100 pounds. This suggests Ferrari is aiming for a grand touring (GT) vehicle rather than a smaller, more focused sports car. The company is deliberately releasing information in stages, with the chassis and powertrain details unveiled as the first phase, followed by design specifics in the first and second quarters of 2026.

At the heart of the Elettrica lies a powertrain comprised of four in-house-developed electric motors, collectively generating over 1000 horsepower. This configuration allows for precise torque vectoring, with the ability to independently control each motor. The system is designed to be primarily all-wheel drive, but can decouple the front motors to switch to rear-wheel drive via an “e-Manettino” mode on the steering wheel, a nod to Ferrari’s existing performance driving controls.

Powering these motors is a 122 kWh gross (net capacity to be revealed later) battery pack, promising a range exceeding 330 miles on the European test cycle. The battery utilizes an 800-volt architecture, a standard increasingly adopted by high-performance EV manufacturers to enable faster charging and improved efficiency.

Ferrari’s commitment to in-house development extends to the motors themselves. The company has incorporated a Halbach array configuration into the rotor design, a technology originally developed for Formula 1 racing. This innovation maximizes torque density while minimizing weight – a critical consideration for a performance-oriented vehicle. The motors are constructed using advanced materials and innovative architecture, entirely designed and assembled by Ferrari.

Beyond the powertrain, Ferrari is also leveraging its expertise in active suspension technology. The Elettrica will feature the third generation of a suspension system co-developed with Multimatic, promising enhanced handling and ride quality.

While the official body style remains undisclosed – Ferrari is keeping options open between sedan, wagon, and SUV – the dimensions suggest a vehicle positioned to compete with high-end electric GT cars. The focus on a four-door configuration indicates a desire to broaden the appeal of the Ferrari brand and cater to customers seeking a more practical, yet still high-performance, vehicle.

Interestingly, a concept design exercise, recently highlighted, proposes a lighter, more focused approach to an electric Ferrari, dubbed the “Elettro Dino.” This concept, created using artificial intelligence, envisions a rear-wheel-drive coupe with a 200 kWh solid-state battery, aiming for a weight of just 1,150 kg. The Elettro Dino concept targets a power output of 650 CV (approximately 641 horsepower) and an estimated 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) acceleration time of between 2.7 and 3.1 seconds.

The concept relies on achieving high energy density from the solid-state battery, estimating around 320-400 Wh/kg at the pack level. This would allow for a battery weight of approximately 500-625 kg, leaving roughly 525-650 kg for the rest of the vehicle’s structure, body, and components. The Elettro Dino concept also incorporates a carbon fiber body and a flocked interior, reminiscent of classic Ferrari competition cars, designed to reduce glare and improve instrument readability.

The Elettro Dino concept estimates a range of 1,000 to 1,300 km (approximately 621 to 808 miles) based on a consumption rate of 15-20 kWh per 100 km. While this is a conceptual exercise, it demonstrates Ferrari’s exploration of different approaches to electrification, balancing performance with efficiency and range.

Ferrari’s entry into the EV market is not simply a response to regulatory pressures or competitor activity. It represents a strategic investment in the future of automotive technology, leveraging the company’s engineering expertise and brand prestige to create a new generation of high-performance electric vehicles. The Elettrica, and potentially future models inspired by concepts like the Elettro Dino, will be crucial in defining Ferrari’s position in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
