Under the direction of Jean Todt, the relentless logic of newcomers Ross brawn and Rory Byrne focused solely on dominating the competition. John Barnard’s final creation lived up to expectations. It was 1997, the brand’s 50th anniversary, and the Scuderia began a decade of dominance. The F310 B featured a cleaner, less rudimentary carbon fiber body than its predecessor, housing a 3-liter V10 Tipo 046/2 engine with a 75-degree angle, producing 730 horsepower.
Few F310 B cars were ever built, with only two featuring chassis 179. This version was refined for greater agility and to accommodate a larger fuel tank, essential for race strategies of the time. It debuted at the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit, where Schumacher secured a memorable victory.
The car being auctioned was driven by Schumacher during the 1997 season, and later by Eddie Irvine. It boasts a documented history and is considered one of the most notable Ferrari Formula 1 cars ever produced. RM Sotheby’s auction will be held on January 28th at the Place Vendôme in Paris. More details about the auction can be found on the RM Sotheby’s website.
