AI-Powered Dog Collar Tracks Pet Health Data

Updated June 23, 2025

Fi has launched the Series 3+, the first AI-powered ⁢dog collar designed to provide pet owners ⁣with comprehensive data about ⁢their ⁢dog’s health and well-being.The collar tracks⁢ subtle behaviors that often go unnoticed.

Jonathan Bensamoun, founder and CEO of fi, said the goal ⁤is⁣ to give every dog owner a more detailed understanding ⁤of their dog’s health, not⁤ just those ⁢with active dogs. The wearable technology monitors activity, sleep patterns, food and water consumption, barking, licking, scratching, and daily ⁣steps.

The collar also integrates with apple watch, providing owners ⁣with real-time notifications. Bensamoun said ⁤that if⁣ a dog ‍escapes, the owner ⁤receives an alert and can track ⁢the dog anywhere in the U.S.

The system uses machine learning to identify‍ and track activity, comparing it to other dogs⁢ of similar breeds ⁢and ⁤sizes. This data ⁤aggregation helps owners identify potential health issues early on.

Bensamoun⁤ noted that ⁣the ⁣ Apple Watch integration and ⁤data‍ analysis provide insights into a dog’s well-being. For example, increased water consumption or excessive paw licking could indicate underlying health problems.

⁣ “If a ⁢dog is ‍drinking much more than usual, they ⁢might be⁣ symptomatic of a kidney issue,” Bensamoun said. “If ‍the dog⁤ is⁢ licking their paws more than usual, it may be ⁢a ⁢symptom that their paws are hurting⁢ and the owner not realizing.”

Bensamoun discovered his dog, Thor, was⁣ receiving far more treats than he realized thanks to the collar’s‍ tracking capabilities.

⁣ “I realized when I⁣ go in the office with my dog, people are giving treats all the time behind my back,” he said. “I was looking at the chart when it comes to his feeding, and I was like, ‘Wait, it has to be a bug.’ It showed he had‍ a snack 13 times in the day.”

Pet owners can‍ use the Fi mobile app to access data and share it⁣ with their veterinarians, improving pet healthcare.

⁣ ‍⁣ “We really think it’s going to become a key pillar of what the next generation of vet care and healthcare is going to be for dogs,” Bensamoun said. “We are going ‍to be able⁤ to extract more details from the hundreds of thousands ⁣of ⁣dogs that⁣ are wearing this collar.”
⁣

What’s next

Fi plans to continue expanding the AI-powered dog ⁤collar’s capabilities, aiming ⁣to provide even more detailed ‍insights into pet health ⁤and behaviour, further integrating the technology into veterinary care.
