Local Fibromyalgia Group Celebrates decade of Support and Advocacy
Saint-Cyr, France – The Fibromyalgia, Act Together (FAE) association marked its 10th anniversary on December 9th, 2024, with a celebratory gathering at the Jacques-Chirac space. Forty-five members came together to commemorate the milestone,joined by Jean-jacques Martineau,the delegate for associations.
“When we started, we were just a group of ten,” shared Laurence Lens, president and co-founder of FAE. “Today, our association boasts 106 members.” Lens emphasized the debilitating nature of fibromyalgia, a condition frequently enough misunderstood and under-recognized.
Fibromyalgia is a disorder of the central nervous system characterized by chronic muscle,joint,and nerve pain,persistent fatigue,and sleep disturbances.
A Lifeline for Those Living with Fibromyalgia
FAE’s monthly support groups provide a vital outlet for individuals grappling with the isolating effects of this chronic illness. “It’s crucial for us to work together,” Lens explained. “We support our members by providing facts, assisting with administrative tasks related to thier disability, and facilitating access to essential adapted Physical Activity (APA) programs.”
Isabelle Rol and Delphine daubord, the association’s secretaries, highlighted FAE’s commitment to member well-being. “We’ve established two APA classes – aquagym and gentle gym – exclusively for our members at the Océades facility in Saint-Cyr,” they said.
Sustained by Community Support
FAE relies primarily on donations to fund its operations,rarely seeking subsidies. “We’ve only applied for grants twice in our ten-year history,” noted treasurers Françoise Basset and Isabelle Jacquet. Their prudent financial management has enabled FAE to establish a small library of resources on fibromyalgia, provide financial assistance for APA participation, and print informational brochures distributed to hospitals and medical practices.
