Fidelity Investments Expands alternative Investment Options for Advisors
Updated June 20, 2025
Fidelity Investments is broadening its custom model portfolio offerings to include alternative investments, making them available to its network of broker-dealers and registered investment advisors (RIAs). This move aims to provide wealth managers with more tools for portfolio diversification and wealth transfer strategies.
The enhanced Fidelity Custom Model Portfolios will enable advisors to integrate private market investments alongside customary options. The company plans to utilize various investment vehicles, including interval funds, tender offer funds, exchange-traded funds (etfs), and mutual funds, to facilitate exposure to private markets. Fidelity emphasizes an open-architecture approach, granting clients access to alternative investment options managed both by Fidelity and external third-party firms.
According to a fidelity survey conducted in december, approximately 46% of advisors expressed strong interest in model portfolios that combine diversified traditional and alternative investments. This reflects a growing trend in the wealth management sector, where advisors are actively seeking innovative investment solutions for their clients.
amanda Robinson, head of Wealth Advisory managed Solutions Distribution at Fidelity Investments, emphasized the benefits of this expansion. “Wealth managers are looking for opportunities to expand beyond traditional asset classes to diversify portfolios, but may see implementation of alternative investments as a complex process,” Robinson saeid. “Fidelity’s open-architecture, custom model portfolios can offer an efficient and tailored solution to help meet advisors’ and their clients’ needs.”
The custom model portfolio is accessible through Envestnet‘s wealth management platform.Fidelity Investments previously launched an investment initiative with Envestnet last June, collaborating with asset managers such as BlackRock, Franklin Templeton, and State Street Global advisors.
