South Yorkshire Police have arrested a fifth person on suspicion of murder following the death of a pedestrian in Barnsley. The victim, 45-year-old Liam Green, died at the scene on Friday, April 3, 2026, after being struck by a white Volkswagen Touareg.

The incident occurred on Rose Tree Avenue in Cudworth at approximately 4:55 p.m. On April 3. Mr. Green was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision.

Police Investigation and Arrests

The investigation has led to five arrests on suspicion of murder. The details of the suspects are as follows:

  • A 53-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, April 5 and remains in police custody.
  • A 60-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman were arrested on Friday, April 3, and remain in police custody.
  • A 33-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were arrested on Saturday, April 4, and have both been released on bail.

South Yorkshire Police stated that they are working to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.
