Fighting Hawks Look to Bounce Back Against Mayville State
Grand Forks, ND – The University of north Dakota Fighting Hawks women’s basketball team (4-7) returns to the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center Tuesday, December 17th, for their final non-conference home game against the Mayville State Comets. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
after snapping a two-game losing streak with a decisive 62-42 victory over Bethel University on Saturday, the Hawks are looking to build momentum heading into Summit League play.
“We had a strong performance against Bethel,” said head coach Mallory Bernhard. “We played with great energy on both ends of the court and executed our game plan effectively. We’re hoping to carry that momentum into Tuesday’s game.”

All UND women’s basketball games,both home and away,are broadcast on the Home of Economy Fighting Hawks Radio Network and streamed via the iHeart Radio app,with veteran broadcaster Jack Michaels providing play-by-play commentary. Saturday’s game will air on 100.3 FM (Cat Country).

UND holds a commanding 36-1 all-time series record against Mayville State.The Hawks suffered their first loss to the Comets last season, falling 68-57. With all but four games played in Grand forks, UND boasts a 32-1 record at home against Mayville State.

Kiera Pemberton led the Hawks to victory against Bethel with 15 points, shooting 5-of-8 from the field, including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc and a perfect 3-of-3 from the free throw line. Nevaeh Ferrara Horne added 12 points, hitting 4-of-6 from three-point range. UND outshot Bethel 38.1% (24-of-63) to 35% (14-of-40) from the field.

The Hawks rank 38th nationally and third in the Summit League with 14.36 free throws made per game.
Individually, Pemberton leads the conference in field goal percentage, shooting 59.2%,and ranks 21st nationally. Mikayla Aumer’s .881 free throw percentage is second best in the conference and ranks 40th nationally.

Coach Bernhard: “Absolutely. We remember that loss. Mayville State is a tough opponent, and we certainly know they’re going to come ready to compete. We respect their program and we’re preparing for a hard-fought game.”
