Maika Tuitubou is set to make his debut for the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua in their Super Round clash against the Chiefs this Sunday at One NZ Stadium in Christchurch.

The former Swami Vivekananda College student has been named at outside centre by head coach Glen Jackson, marking a significant milestone in his rugby journey after progressing through the Drua development pathway.

Tuitubou, originally from Lakeba in Lau with maternal links to Moala and Nadi, comes through the Nadi Rugby U19s, Fiji U20s, and the Drua academy system. He has also represented the Fiji Warriors and gained experience with Norths Rugby Club in Queensland’s Hospital Cup.

His debut comes as co-captain Frank Lomani returns from injury to bolster the Drua’s backline, partnering Isaiah Armstrong-Ravula in the halves. Lomani’s return is seen as a key boost for the side ahead of the high-stakes encounter against the competition-leading Chiefs.

In the confirmed starting XV, Virimi Vakatawa lines up at inside centre with Tuitubou outside him, while Ilaisa Droasese returns to fullback. The wing positions are occupied by Manasa Mataele on the left and Taniela Rakuro on the right.

Up front, Haereiti Hetet will make his 47th appearance for the Drua at loosehead prop, alongside Zuriel Togiatama at hooker and Mesake Doge at tighthead. The second row features Mesake Vocevoce and co-captain Temo Mayanavanua, while the back row consists of Etonia Waqa, Kitione Salawa, and Isoa Tuwai at number eight.

On the bench, the Drua have named Kavaia Tagivetaua, Emosi Tuqiri, and Peni Ravai for front-row cover, with Isoa Nasilasila and Elia Canakaivata providing depth in the locks and loose forwards. Simione Kuruvoli, Kemu Valetini, and Inia Tabuavou complete the matchday 23.

The Drua will look to build on recent form as they face a Chiefs side currently leading the Super Rugby Pacific competition. The match represents a significant opportunity for the Fijian franchise to test themselves against the league’s pacesetters in the Super Round format.

For Tuitubou, the appearance marks the culmination of a pathway that began at the grassroots level in Nadi and progressed through age-grade international representation before earning his first senior cap with the Drua.
