Filing a Case Doesn’t Mean You’re Under Arrest: Home Ministry Sets the Record Straight
Home Ministry Warns Against Unlawful Activities Amidst Ongoing Investigations
The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an urgent warning message assuring the people to refrain from activities against the current law and order in the country. A notification in this regard has been published by the ministry on Tuesday.
Following the fall of the authoritarian government in a student uprising led by the ‘anti-discrimination student movement’ on August 5, the interim government took over. The brutal force used by the fallen government led to the removal of the mass uprising resulting in many deaths and casualties. Many people have suffered various tortures such as abductions, disappearances, and extrajudicial killings during the long period of misrule. As a result, there is a lot of public anger towards the outgoing government. The interim government is determined to prosecute this abuse.
It is further stated that it is noted with concern that when the government has called on the United Nations to investigate the truth and initiate the judicial process with a clear promise of justice, some overzealous and self-interested quarters have taken the law into their own hands and besieged institutions in the name of protest in various cases, forcefully demanding resignation, vandalism, arson, illegal searches, looting, extortion, tender offer, pressure on the police to accept cases en masse, and attacking the accused in court, trying to create instability. In this context, the government wants to assure everyone that a case does not mean a random arrest. All these cases are properly investigated, and appropriate action is taken.
According to the ministry’s warning, the government makes it clear that appropriate legal action will be taken against these activities that impair public safety. The government will identify all miscreants and take immediate action against them, taking legal action irrespective of their association with the party.
It was also said that if there is a complaint against anyone, it should be reported to the superior and the office, and no organization can in any way be surrounded or any kind of violent behavior. On behalf of the government, the general laws will be properly followed in the investigation and prosecution, and measures will be taken to eliminate acts of harassment.
In this message, everyone is sincerely invited to cooperate with the government to maintain law and order.
