Filipe Toledo Unveils New Freesurfing Film after Championship Tour hiatus

Two-time World Surf League champion Filipe Toledo, 30, has released nearly 20 minutes of previously unseen freesurfing footage, captured during his 2024 sabbatical from the Championship Tour. The film, titled ”Raiz y Sal” (Root and Salt), showcases Toledo and friends surfing in Mexico, Nicaragua, El Salvador, and his native Brazil.
The film serves as a reminder of Toledo’s prowess, notably after his win at Burliegh Heads. Interspersed with the surfing action are segments where Toledo reflects on his decision to step away from the tour,citing stress and a desire to spend more time with his family. Toledo had been a full-time competitor on the CT as 2013.
The Brazilian surfer is currently ninth on the CT leaderboard.
“Ther was a lot of pressure, a lot of demands,” Toledo said in the film’s introduction. “And I needed a break… having sacrificed many things in my life, for surfing, for the world tour… As I believed, because I’m doing this for my family.”
