Final Fantasy 11 Unlimited Free Trial and Level Cap Increase Target September 2026
Square Enix is targeting a September 2026 launch for an unlimited free trial of Final Fantasy 11, alongside raising the game’s trial level cap from 50 to 75 for the first time in nearly a decade, according to producer and director Yoji Fujito.
The announcement arrived during an August 22 broadcast of A.M.A.N. Live, where Fujito outlined plans for the long-running MMORPG, which marked its 24th anniversary in May 2026. While the original PC version remains fully operational a decade after the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 server shutdowns in early 2016, Square Enix has continuously experimented with subscription-free access through campaigns like Return Home to Vana’diel.
Target Launch Windows and System Maintenance
Square Enix has set September 2026 as a target release window rather than a confirmed rollout date. The level cap increase from 50 to 75 is planned to arrive during the regular September version update. However, removing the current 14-day playtime limit requires separate account-system maintenance on backend servers, which Square Enix plans to conduct near the end of September. Because of this technical division, both changes may not go live on the exact same day.
Free Trial Restrictions and Limitations

Even after the 14-day limit is removed, trial accounts will remain subject to substantial content and economic restrictions. Free players will be restricted strictly to areas from the base version of Final Fantasy 11, leaving all expansion zones inaccessible. Trial users will have access to six starting jobs and six unlockable jobs: Paladin, Beastmaster, Dark Knight, Bard, Ranger, and Summoner. Accounts will also be capped at three characters and a maximum of 100,000 gil. Fundamental economy and social tools, including trading, the auction house, bazaars, World transfers, select chat functions, and certain party features, will remain locked.
Ongoing Accessibility Updates Throughout 2026

The upcoming trial overhaul forms part of a broader sequence of updates deployed throughout 2026 to reduce friction for new and returning players. In March, Square Enix improved Trust NPCs to facilitate solo play. Subsequent updates in April lowered map unlock costs and revised tutorial quests, while May introduced clearer progression objectives. A July update adjusted default display and camera settings to align with modern games, which Fujito noted was intended to improve accessibility for newcomers. Additional adjustments remain underway to simplify character leveling, fast travel, and automatic grouping.
