Finding Home in a New York Apartment
The Apartment That Still Feels Like Home: A New Yorker‘s housing Story
We’ve been exploring the engaging history of American housing on “Marketplace” – from the rise of the ranch house to the evolution of the college dorm. But just as houses have stories, so do the people who live in them.
Writer Melissa Mesku, a former new Yorker, recently joined “Marketplace” to share the story of the apartment that still holds a special place in her heart.
“I don’t know [the apartment’s] current status,” Mesku said. “I don’t know if it’s still a rent-stabilized place or not.Maybe it got renovated. Maybe the old parquet floor is gone. But the apartment was really special.”
Mesku’s story is a reminder that homes are more than just bricks and mortar; they’re repositories of memories, emotions, and personal history.
