De Telegraaf noted that the operation functioned under Finnish command and makes part of the closer military cooperation between Finland and Sweden, the two newest members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Finland and Sweden announced cooperation late last August to safeguard their shared regional borders and territorial integrity.

German authorities recently attributed a failed drone attack targeting the Leipzig airport to Moscow, while Danish intelligence agencies issued public warnings regarding the rising probability of limited provocations directed against member states of the alliance.
