Incident Overview
A fire broke out at the Finnish sauna within the Circolo Metrò Venezia Club in the Piave district of Mestre, Italy, before 2:00 PM on Sunday, september 21, 2024. The cause of the fire is currently under examination.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, which were concentrated in the sauna area, and evacuated the building. No injuries were reported.
Emergency Response
two teams from the 115 command, supported by two fire trucks (including one from Padua), a self-propelled vehicle, and a wagon, responded to the scene.Military personnel, Carabinieri (113), and Suem 118 emergency medical services were also present as a precaution.
While flames and smoke were visible from a distance, causing some concern among residents in Mestre, the situation was quickly brought under control.
Impact on Residents
Two elderly residents living near the club were temporarily relocated from their home to a nearby park to avoid smoke inhalation. They were provided with food after being moved, as they had recently taken medication and needed to eat promptly, according to Giampaolo Conte of the Facebook page “The Voice of the Piave District.”
A strong smell of burning plastic permeated the Piave district, extending as far as Via Col di Lana, as reported by Giovanna Luzzi of the Coordination Citizens District Piave. The smell of melted plastic was particularly strong in that area.
