Fire Breaks Out at Logistics Center in Incheon

An afternoon fire at a logistics center in Wonchang-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon, prompted the emergency evacuation of approximately 3,000 people on Aug. 19, according to local reports from Gyeonggi Ilbo.

The incident began at approximately 5:28 p.m. on the basement level of the facility, originating specifically within the electrical switchboard of the machine room.

Response and Containment

According to Gyeonggi Ilbo, fire responders and facility safety systems brought the situation under control quickly. The fire was extinguished independently on-site 14 minutes after it started, at approximately 5:42 p.m.

Despite the rapid containment of the basement switchboard fire, the presence of thousands of occupants triggered a large-scale evacuation. Approximately 3,000 individuals were safely led out of the logistics center as smoke and emergency protocols activated across the sprawling facility.

Facility Impact and Ongoing Checks

Authorities have not yet released a detailed damage estimate or confirmed the exact operational disruption to the Incheon logistics hub following the evacuation. Emergency crews remained on the scene to inspect the electrical equipment in the basement machine room and ensure no hidden hotspots remained after the flames were put out.
