Fire Extinguished at LADWP Facility in Downtown Los Angeles Without Injuries
Flames broke out at a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) facility on Saturday morning. The fire started at 12:23 a.m. at the location on 560 S. San Julian St., downtown Los Angeles. Firefighters from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded quickly.
By 2:07 a.m., firefighters had mostly controlled the fire and waited for the utility to cut power to the equipment. The remaining fire was contained to one or two transformers. The firefighters allowed the flames to burn off the high-voltage equipment while protecting the surrounding building and preventing smoke from entering nearby areas.
Firefighters also worked to protect an adjacent apartment building. Once LADWP de-energized the facility, firefighters completely extinguished the flames by 4:11 a.m. There were no reported injuries from the incident.
