First AI-Powered Exercise Prescription Software Launching This December: A 20-Year Advocacy Journey

First AI-Powered Exercise Prescription Software Launching This December: A 20-Year Advocacy Journey

November 18, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Health

Ginkgo Health Inc. will launch Ginkgo Active, an AI-powered app for personalized exercise prescriptions, on December 8, 2024. The app aims to help prevent and manage chronic conditions for billions worldwide.

Research over the past 25 years confirms that exercise is crucial for health. According to the World Health Organization, regular physical activity helps prevent diseases like cardiovascular issues and diabetes. However, no current solution consolidates this information for public use. Creating a personalized exercise prescription involves many health factors, which is complex and beyond human capacity.

Maggie Deng, founder of Ginkgo Health, created Ginkgo Active after her experiences with NextStep Robotics. This company develops rehabilitation equipment for stroke patients. Experts emphasized that preventive exercise plans are vital before serious health problems arise.

Ginkgo Active offers users exercise prescriptions made by advanced AI, analyzing over 170,000 health data points. The plans focus on all muscle groups and ensure safe exercise. Amanda Leonard, a Program Director at the University of Maryland, highlights the importance of personalized recovery paths in exercise planning.

The app adjusts workout plans daily based on user feedback, energy levels, and available equipment. Every four weeks, users receive a health reassessment and an updated exercise plan.

Jose Hernandez, CEO of TTT Studios, praised the collaboration with Ginkgo to develop the app, which aims to make preventive health accessible to all. Ginkgo Active has undergone extensive testing since October 2023, validating its algorithms against data from over a million user profiles. Several business groups have already enrolled in benefit plans, offering the app to employees and their families.

Anna Chin, who runs early childhood education centers, expressed the need for solutions to reduce injuries among her staff. Ginkgo emphasizes “movement literacy,” a key goal of its training programs.

Ginkgo Health aims to provide unique solutions for many users simultaneously. Inspired by gaming technology, the app allows users to have personalized experiences as they progress. The company’s goal is to make preventive health engaging and effective.

The cost of physical inactivity to public health could reach $300 billion from 2020 to 2030 if current activity levels do not improve, according to the WHO.
