The first team to secure a place in the quarterfinals of the World Championship will be a European nation, persistent by the match between Turkiye and the Netherlands. The eighthfinal clash is scheduled for 15:30 local time (07:30 UTC) in Pasay City.
turkiye’s last victory against the Netherlands in an official match was in 2018, during the CEV European Golden League, where they won in five sets at home. Following that win, the Netherlands secured three consecutive victories, including a 3-1 win in the Volleyball nations League (VNL) in Xi’an in June 2025.
Both teams concluded the final VNL standings near the bottom, with Turkiye in 17th place and the Netherlands facing relegation below them.
Turkiye’s Performance and Ranking
Turkiye’s highest finish in the World Championships was 11th place three years ago. In the current World Championship, they topped Pool G undefeated, dropping only one set against Libya in their three matches.
They also defeated higher-ranked teams Japan and Canada, leading to a rise to 14th in the FIVB World ranking-an improvement of two spots from their pre-tournament position. Outside hitter Efe Mandiraci and opposite Adis Lagumdzija each scored 45 points during the pool stage, leading the team. Mandiraci also ranked as the second-best server in the competition with 10 aces.
The Netherlands’ Performance and Ranking
Dutch opposite Michiel Ahyi currently leads the best servers ranking with 12 aces and is the Netherlands’ top scorer with 61 points. The Netherlands’ best World Championship result was a silver medal in 1994, their only medal in the competition’s history.
In the current event, the Netherlands finished as runners-up to Poland in Pool B, after wins against Qatar and Romania and a loss to the world’s number one team. The netherlands currently holds the 20th position in the FIVB World Ranking.
