Five skiers have died in an accident on a glacier⁤ near the luxury ​resort of Zermatt, Switzerland.Valais⁣ police confirmed the‍ deaths after hikers‌ reported seeing abandoned skis near the Rimpfischhorn, a 13,000-foot ⁤peak in the Valais Alps.

aerial and ⁤ground searches led to the revelation of the bodies on ‍the adler Glacier, below​ the mountain’s summit. Authorities located three bodies⁤ in one area and ⁤two others higher up‍ the slope. The identities of the skiers, believed to be traveling together, have‍ not been released.

The Swiss public prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into the fatal⁤ ski accident. The probe will focus⁤ on weather conditions and avalanche activity in the area to determine the circumstances surrounding the ⁢deaths. The nationalities of the victims have not been disclosed.
