Brazilian clubs Flamengo and Palmeiras are gearing up for‍ the expanded‍ Club World Cup, hoping to challenge the dominance of European powerhouses. The ⁢tournament, a brainchild of FIFA President Gianni ⁤Infantino, will feature 32 ⁤clubs.

Last‌ year’s Club World‍ Cup final saw⁣ Manchester City defeat Fluminense. The English club’s $902 ⁣million⁢ revenue dwarfed‍ Fluminense’s $125 million,highlighting ⁤the financial gulf.

Corinthians‌ was the last ‌non-European⁢ team to win the competition in ⁤2012, defeating Chelsea 1-0.‍ Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira, known⁣ for his defensive strategies, aims to⁣ replicate that success.

Palmeiras,despite a rocky start to ‍their season,will face Porto,Al Ahly,and⁢ Inter Miami⁤ in their group. Midfielder⁢ Raphael Veiga’s return from⁢ injury is a boost. ⁤Youngster estevao, bound ⁢for Chelsea, seeks a memorable send-off.

Flamengo faces a tougher⁤ road,⁢ drawn against esperance de ⁢Tunis, ⁢los Angeles, and Chelsea in Philadelphia. While Flamengo’s revenue reached $180 million ⁢in 2022, Chelsea’s $635 million⁢ revenue⁢ underscores the financial ⁤challenge.

Despite the odds, Brazilians remain optimistic. Flamengo President Luiz Eduardo Baptista said the squad’s depth should allow them to compete ⁤on ‍multiple fronts. Though, coach Filipe‌ Luis noted the‌ congested schedule poses‌ a notable hurdle. Playmaker Giorgian de Arrascaeta’s return to form provides a boost.

The timing of the⁢ tournament could favor ⁢the Brazilian teams.
